JT the class clown gets in trouble and spends the week afterschool with the hot science teacher Ms. Haztilakos but along the way he finds that she is a person not just a hot teacher and he earns her respect. Lenny renews his duel of wits with John, kidnapping Lt. Avery and sending a series of cryptic clues with a fatal deadline. A new captain makes things hard for John and he and Digger go off on their own to hunt down the killer. John meets up with Frank and they figure both that the police are on the wrong trail going into a booby trap and where Lenny really is. But Frank accidentally shoots John, killing him and letting Lenny escape. It's a ruse to draw Lenny out at the cemetery with no one in the way, one that (more or less) works. We do find out that Lenny branded himself with John's mark and didn't have any deep connection to him.

Walter has trouble when he tries to split firewood. Red builds a loveseat that expands into a full sized couch. Red installs a manhole cover on his engine for making giant waffles.
Reba suggests that the family create a time capsule and videotape private messages for Cheyenne's baby, Elizabeth. Unfortunately, privacy is thrown out the window and feelings are hurt when curiosity gets the best of everyone and they foolishly decide to watch the tape.

Deep in the woods, Ash spies a Treecko. He's wanted to catch a Treecko since he first saw one at Professor Birch's laboratory. He follows the Treecko to an enormous tree that seems to be dying. There, Ash's Treecko has an argument with all of the other Treecko. It seems that Ash's Treecko is very attached to the tree and wants to stay with it, while the rest of the clan wants to move on to a new tree. Ash watches as the lone Treecko struggles to save the tree. He and Pikachu feel badly for the Treecko and try to help. In the end, however, the tree dies and falls. Now that its home is gone, Treecko is ready to make a new home with Ash. He and Pikachu battle, and Ash catches his Treecko!

The group looks into her disappearance, with their suspects ranging from the local mayor, to Annie's godfather, all the way to a young man working for the father of her best friend. Twenty-four hours after Annie's disappearance, her best friend Siobhan Arintero also vanishes, leaving only a collection of videos to help find the two girls.

When evidence reveals that the death was possibly a random killing, they are able to track down their suspect to his apartment. However things get complicated when their killer is murdered, and the person who committed the crime happens to be the victim's mother.
